Re: America
So if Labour manages to win the next election, which is a distinct possibility, will you come on here and trumpet that Labour is an unrepresentative government?

Re: America
Ha, the present Government doesn’t even represent the Tory Parliamentary party let alone the country as a whole.

Still, you carry on defending what you did not vote for ( in common with the majority of the electorate ).

Why is it unrepresentative?

You have beaten the same old drum continuously before, the voting system is the same one that has elected many Labour and Conservative governments so why don't you quit banging on about it

That the best that you can do you lightweight?

Oh and take time off to learn the difference between criticising our great country and criticising our unrepresentative government.

Re: America
NS, why the negative comment about golf clubs in the UK?

Is it because they have standards that you don’t wish to comply with?

Oh and if you want an example of of a club in the USA that brokers no breaching of the rules try and get in the club house at Augusta and see what happens.

Never had any desire to go to America, but for some unknown reason I’ve always wanted to see Detroit.

Decay is more interesting than bright lights to me.

I did look into doing a tour of the rust belt but it wasn’t going to be cheap. Now the exchange rate has tonked I doubt if I’ll ever do it.

Loved it when i did a west coast road trip. SAn Diego to Palm Springs, cute place and only an hour or so from LA. Dove to Flagstaff from there via Phoenix (Long Desert Drive). Did the Grand Canyon for a day when staying in Flagstaff, you never foget the immensity of it all. From there drove to Vegas (no explanation necessary) and the on to San Francisco via Death Valley and Yosemite taking 2-3 days. Back to LA on the big Sur. Great Trip and great memories.

Pebble Beach is great... all welcome... no snobbery (unlike clubs over here)...walk around the course... take the family in the club house for a beer and a sarnie... can even keep your baseball cap on.... imagine the OUTRAGE in the old boys clubs here...

I was in Napa valley on Sep 11th. Some of the big wineries were closed, but still had a nice time visiting the ones still open.

On the way back we spent a day in Carmel, beautiful little town, Clint Eastwood use to be mayor.

Spent a couple of nights in Monterrey at Marina Dunes… Then drove back down Pacific coast highway thru a Big Sur. Didn’t do 27 mile drive and didn’t stop at the Hearst castle either but a beautiful drive, have some great pics of the coast….. Drove down The Pacific coast to San Luis Obispo before getting on the 5 South fwy.

Definitely worth the time.

The teacher thing is believable. Depending on the state, they can be paid very little.

Capitol / El Scorchio

Thanks for the tips - I’d favour the West Coast as I have friends living in L.A.
Drove up the Pacific Highway last time I was out there, but only got as far as Santa Barbara

Re: America
The homelessness problem in America has ballooned severely as a result of the pandemic. While the government did give additional weekly benefits to those that had and lost jobs, it did nothing for those that did not. Also if you were a small business owner and were unable to secure PPP money, then you were out of luck. Inflation has also hit hard like everywhere else in the world, but there are a lot of people here living hand to mouth. My wife is a teacher and suspects one of her colleagues lives out of his van because he cannot afford rent.

I was floored when I visited DC in the summer of 2021. Basically every green space I walked past had turned into tent cities.
